Fishing Tonight

July 12, 2007

Gone FishingI’m delighted to do something different today. Someone invited us to go fishing down the Hudson River. If I recall my previous fishing trips it involved sitting around watch the men just hold on to their rods – like as in fishing poles ok! and us ‘simple minded’ lasses just watched. So usually I would just have some beers keep asking why we haven’t cought any fish yet!

This is when the guys would come up with lame excuses that there isn’t any fish in this river blah blah blah… excuses excuses, and when they DO catch a tiny fish they think they act like they cought a Barracuda.

Anyway that’s my experience with fishing. This time its for REALZ YA’LL! Even I’m going to do it! Thought it’ll be a boat with people anchoring their poles and sitting chatting and drinking beers while watching the sunset. (thought I wouldn’t mind doing that too..) After checking out the website, its serious fishing in the Hudson.

Second Life

July 10, 2007

simplelife.jpg I’m not sure how many of you have heard of this portal called Second Life. Karen told me about it and if you decide to join come look for me. My name is Sheilz Tomsen! Hahahah  You can create your first name but you’ll have to choose from a list of last names listed out for you to use.

Its actually pretty cool the fist DAY I spent checking it out! Yes I was on it for almost a whole day just playing around and getting Sheilz into character. Sheilz is my “Avatar” and you can change every detailed feature of your avatar, cheekbones, lips, hair, nails, eyebrows… everything. You can even buy islands, watch live concerts all with real money but with an different exchange rate (linden dollars) of course and just create your second life there!

I’ve not done much or gone into actually buying land and having kids there yet. My real life isn’t that boring to spend that much time playing this. Website give lots of explanations on how it works but best is just to sign-up get a character and just test it out. There’s some initial downloading involved but it’ll only take you about 5 mins. Let me know how you go and maybe you can join me and Deby buy an island and get naked and charge a fortune for property!! We’ll make a KILLING!

The Statue of Lady Liberty~

March 26, 2007

golden_statue.jpgIts amaizing to see the Statue of Liberty so up close and personal especially on a boat where the view of it is so clear and the reality of it so similar to how millions of immigrants would have felt when they saw it for the first time arriving to America.

Its an overwhelming experience just traveling on a boat and trying to feel what these people probably felt after weeks and weeks of being in sea and finally coming up to America and seeing the first symbol of the country welcoming them to their shores. (the film Titanic comes to mind when what’s her face sees the statue of liberty after Leo dies..) Wow~! I can’t imagine how that must have felt like in the 1800’s. It was equally exciting to see Brooklyn Bridge. The time it was made it was the worlds longest bridge, and its gothic design just blends in perfectly to the old-designed stone building you find everywhere in NYC.

We needed a drink after that as a tone of energy was knocked out of us on the boat. The water was choppy and we wouldn’t stand straight to take a picture. Also the cold wind just bitch slapped us throught the whole journey. It was a good weekend thought. Sad I missed my Mom’s Birthday in Singers. Dad’s going to be 60 next month and I have no idea what to get him!

Guess no one has any ideas.. Anyone? Ideas?…………….. No?
